Denmark urgently needs a circular economy strategy
Resource consumption and the climate crisis are inextricably linked. In order for us to achieve our climate goals and improve biodiversity, it is necessary to reduce our consumption of the earth's resources. Unfortunately, resource consumption, waste prevention and circular conversion have not been a political priority in Denmark. In contrast, the focus so far has primarily been on improving our waste sorting and handling.
The consequence is that today in Denmark we are only 4 percent circular. In other words, we are miles away from a circular consumption of resources within the planetary boundaries. Therefore, we urgently need knowledge, investments, the right framework conditions and incentives that can boost the circular transition.
But why and how can a political strategy for a circular economy boost the circular transition? What efforts and targets for our resource consumption are needed? Is there political support - and what do the politicians intend to do?
