A sustainable clothing industry - how far is the EU from the target?
When: Thursday 8 December At 9.00-10.00
Where: online/Zoom
In 2030, the EU has restructured the textile industry. The clothes have a long life, they are made of good quality, and fast fashion has gone out of fashion. This is the vision for the future textile sector in the so-called EU strategy for sustainable and circular textiles. We will delve into this topic on our morning webinar on December 8.
There is a great need for us to take care of the textile industry. Industry is the fourth largest environmental polluter after food, housing and transport. And the production and consumption of textiles is increasing. With that comes an even higher impact on our climate and environment as well as on water and energy consumption. The EU's textile strategy tries to tackle this through a series of initiatives that set requirements for sustainable production and which should make it easier for consumers to buy sustainable clothes.
But is the EU strategy even ambitious enough? Can the industry live up to it? Is it a final goodbye to fast fashion? And what are we missing in order for us to have a real sustainable textile industry.
