Debate: To what extent should CO2 capture be prioritized in the EU in order to achieve the climate goals?
Denmark must be climate neutral in 2045 and already five years later the goal is to reduce CO2 emissions by 110 per cent. compared to 1990. In that pursuit, CO2 capture and storage (CCS) has been identified as an important piece. The technology has filled much of the Danish debate over the past year, and it has been chosen to make CCS a central technology in the effort towards CO2 neutrality in Denmark.
In a European context, the technology is also slowly starting to appear on the agenda, but its role in the EU's goal of climate neutrality in 2050 is still undefined. Earlier this year, however, the EU Commission held a consultation on Industrial Carbon Management, and at the end of the year an expert group will come up with a technical report for CO2 capture in the EU.
Can CO2 capture and storage put Denmark and the EU on the right course in relation to the climate goals? And in what way should the technology be brought into play?
Come along to our debate meeting, where you can learn more about the nuances of CCS technology through presentations from two independent organizations - CONCITO and the Green Transition Denmark.
Subsequently, there will be a debate among candidates for the European Parliament elections in June 2024, where it will be discussed what the technology should be used for in a European context and what the panelists think about the subject.
Come and join us in discussing the possibilities of CCS technology in a European perspective!
