Debate meeting: From agricultural support to climate support in the EU

The green transformation of agriculture must be accelerated! EU agriculture receives annual support of more than DKK 400 billion. kroner, which corresponds to 1/3 of the EU's total budget. Therefore, it is reasonable to ask: Should we change the agricultural support to climate, environmental and nature support?

Agricultural support is given primarily as direct hectare support, but also partly via eco-schemes and green pools. Some of the support is therefore already given to climate, environment and nature initiatives.

The EU Commission is in the process of devising what agricultural support should look like after 2027 - and with agriculture's climate emissions and impact on the environment and nature, the huge amounts of support can play a decisive role in the green transformation of the agricultural sector.

But what should a new reform look like? And how do we achieve the transformation of the agricultural sector? Should we finally do away with the direct hectare subsidy? Should the farmers of the future be nature managers to the same extent as they are food producers?
