Postponed to September due to Covid19: Debate on future agricultural support: Time for green visions?

The EU's agricultural support must be reformed. Just under 1.990 billion DKK in 7 years. How can it be used in the green transition? Is it up to Brussels or the member states to ensure that the aid is earmarked for climate-friendly and sustainable agriculture? We ask the various actors.

Agriculture accounts for around 22% of Denmark's total CO2 emissions, and these emissions have been growing in recent decades. In the context of agricultural support having to be renegotiated, we therefore ask a number of actors whether it is time for green visions for agriculture and how agricultural support can be used in this context.

Just under 1.990 billion Danish kroner. Overall, this is how much the EU is expected to spend on agricultural support in the period 2021-2027. In 2020, Denmark will receive DKK 6,6 billion. kroner of the support, and unlike other member states, we have not earmarked any of it for climate-friendly and sustainable agriculture. The support for the Danish farmers is distributed primarily based on the amount of hectares, which means that the support favors large, conventional farms. But in a time of upheaval like now, the question is whether it is time for green visions for agriculture?
