EU agricultural support – are we on the right track?
When: Thursday 24 Nov. At 9.00-10.00
Where: online/Zoom
Many want to get rid of it, and many cannot live without it. The agricultural subsidy is a controversial scheme that has a major impact on food prices, the incomes of European farmers and, not least, the environment, climate and nature. The agricultural support that accrues annually to European farmers amounts to around DKK 411 billion, or 1/3 of the EU's total budget.
With the latest CAP reform (2023-2027), among other things, eco-schemes are introduced, which help to channel parts of the EU's agricultural support towards climate, environment and nature initiatives. The direct hectare support is to a greater extent conditional on areas being managed in ways that have a positive effect on biodiversity, the environment and the climate. The EU sets the overall framework and requirements, and the individual countries, including Denmark, have drawn up a strategic plan for how the support is distributed.
But are we on the right track with the new EU support framework and the current national plans? What does this mean for the farmers and on the farms?
And what should be changed so that we use the many EU billions best for agriculture, nature and the environment?
