Hotspots from the agricultural support debate

The battle for the EU's agricultural policy for the period 2021–2027 is intensifying. With the Green Deal, the EU Commission has set the bar high in relation to nature, environment and climate – but will it succeed in realizing the goals? Debate with Leif Bach Jørgensen, RGO, and Steen Gade, Nyt Europa.

Time: 15 September 2020 from 16-17

Location: Online via Zoom

The event is free, but registration is required.

No more 'one size fits all'. A high degree of flexibility has been planned, so that the Member States must now design strategic plans and so-called Ecoschemes, which are adapted to local geographical, structural and social framework conditions. Will it lead to increased efficiency in relation to achieving the green objectives?

Does the Commission have the power to ensure real progress in all countries? Will the increased flexibility create greater differences between the countries? And what does this mean for the agricultural industry – do high environmental requirements in a single country lead to distortions of competition, or can it be offset by the fact that high environmental and climate standards are an important new competitive parameter in the markets?

The budget for agricultural support will continue to decline slowly. How much money is needed to ensure the green transition? Can the agricultural support both function as income support and ensure the green transition – and how should the money be distributed if it is to succeed?

Dialogue and analysis from previous MFs, Stone Street, New Europe, and Senior Advisor Leif Bach Jorgensen, the Green Transition Denmark. The moderator in the debate is the head of the secretariat and chief analyst, Rasmus Nørlem Sørensen, from the DEO.
