Plastic in Denmark: How do we get a circular economy?

The seminar was held at Johan Borups Højskole for a full house. Slides from presenters can be found at the bottom of the page

The world needs us to reduce CO2 emissions from plastic production and consumption, increase plastic recycling (including recycling) and reduce plastic pollution. There is a particular need for plastics containing health and environmentally harmful chemicals to be phased out in production.

The EU has adopted strategies for circular economy and plastics, as well as several directives for plastic reduction. The previous government drew up a plastics action plan, where all the parties in the Danish Parliament shortly afterwards joined a cooperation agreement in the area of plastics. The new S government will set a new direction, increase the pace and level of ambition and create a plastic action plan.

There is a need for Denmark to make a much greater effort than so far. That is why we are asking the Danish players in the plastics sector – manufacturers, retailers, consumers, the waste industry, etc. – to come up with ambitious proposals on what they can do to reduce the harmful effects on the climate, environment and health from plastics.
