Workshop on Smart Readiness Indicators
Green Transition Denmark, Energy Forum Denmark, Intelligent Energy and CONCITO invite to a workshop on the EU's proposal for a Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) and discussion of how SRI in Denmark should be designed to have value for users.
Time: Thursday 25 March 2021, at 10.00-16.00
Location: Online via Teams.
See the schedule here
On 23 July 2020, the EU Commission submitted a proposal which describes a new Smart Readiness Indicator. The proposal is an offshoot of the revised building directive from 2018, which requires the Commission to establish a common EU scheme for a Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI). It is voluntary for Member States whether they want to introduce SRI and it will be possible to carry out a test phase prior to this decision. Denmark has not yet decided whether and how to implement the scheme, but is initiating a test period.
The purpose of the building indicator is to describe in a simple way how intelligent a building is. In this way, an SRI can, among other things, contribute to larger buildings in particular achieving a better interaction between the various technical systems in buildings in the future. At the same time, SRI also provides a measure for how the building can be operated flexibly, so that it supports the cost-effective operation of energy systems which are increasingly based on fluctuating renewable energy.
The Building Directive (EPBD) prescribes that SRI must describe the three "key smart readiness functionalities" which are central to assessing a building's intelligence readiness:
- Energy performance and operation.
- Reaction to user needs.
- Energy flexibility, including the ability of the building or building unit to cover the grid's power needs.
In the so-called BoGO (Buildings and Green Transition) project, CONCITO and the Green Transition Denmark have partly prepared a foresight note as well as a short Pixi edition on SRI, which i.a. describes in more detail the purpose and content of the new arrangement that the EU Commission has played with.
In continuation of this, Energiforum Danmark, Intelligent Energi, CONCITO and the Green Transition Denmark invite to a workshop on how SRI in Denmark should be designed to have value for users. The EU Commission's proposal for SRI is the basis of work that the Danish Energy Agency has initiated, where, among other things, a test of SRI must be carried out.
At the Workshop, through presentations, we give the participants insight into the EU's thoughts on an SRI, the Danish Energy Agency's preliminary considerations, Finnish experiences with buildings that are assessed based on the SRI and possible interaction with other labeling schemes for buildings used in Denmark.
For the organizers of this workshop, it is absolutely crucial that the Danish design of any SRI becomes a usable marking instrument for the actors who work with intelligent, controllable buildings and their interaction with the energy system. The target group for SRI and for this workshop are thus builders, operators responsible for buildings, suppliers, advisers, utility companies, municipalities and others.
The event is held virtually over Teams and is free, but requires registration.
