How green do the politicians in the EU Parliament vote?

15. April 2024
New mapping shows that only around a third of MEPs have voted consistently for legislation to protect our climate, nature and air quality

For the past five years, the politicians in the European Parliament have had the opportunity to act and vote for legislation that can secure our climate, nature and cleaner air. But how large a proportion of them have actually voted for the important initiatives? Five major climate and environmental organizations have set out to investigate this.

In this overview, you can see which legislation the mapping has focused on.

This mapping shows that only a small part of the EU parliamentarians have voted for important bills that deal with climate, energy, nature, circular economy and clean air. Depending on how the politicians have voted, they have been divided into different categories in the mapping.

The conclusion of the report is that only a third vote as protectors (protectors who take a stand and act for the climate. Barely half act as procrastinators (postponers who vote inconsistently and often delay important legislation. And a fifth are prehistoric thinkers that undermine or block important climate and environmental legislation.
