Podcast Green Europe
– a podcast for those of you who are concerned with the biggest climate and environmental issues of our time and want to know how we can solve the common challenges
In the midst of a severe heat wave, the European Commission has now launched its proposal for what the EU's climate targets for 2040 should be. But is the target of a 90 percent reduction in greenhouse gases by 2040 ambitious enough? We speak to the Social Democrats' Member of the European Parliament, Niels Fuglsang, and to Britt Dam, who is the climate and energy advisor for the Green Transition Denmark. We also focus on greenwashing in the EU together with the Nordic Ecolabel's marketing and communications manager, Rina Ronja Kari. Can consumers trust the environmental and climate labels that companies put on their products, and is it a green step backwards that the Commission has withdrawn its Green Claims directive?
Host: Bjarke Moller
The EU's climate targets for 2040 are just around the corner. The EU Commission will soon present its proposal for a future climate law. But how does the EU Climate Council view the matter, and what recommendations will they present?
In this episode, Bjarke Møller talks to Jette Bredahl Jacobsen. She is the deputy chair of the European Scientific Advisory Board on Climate Change and a professor at the University of Copenhagen. In this podcast, she presents the recent recommendations from the EU Climate Council for a new climate law for 2040 in the EU. How high should the reduction target be? Should the EU take greater global responsibility? And are climate credits a good idea? At the end of the program, Bjarke Møller presents the main points from a new memorandum from the Green Transition Denmark, which has a plan for how the EU can achieve the goal of a 95 percent CO2 reduction by 2040.

Clean water and access to energy have been fundamental prerequisites for the society we have today. But Europe's aquatic environment is under pressure. Only 37 percent of rivers, lakes and streams are in good ecological condition, and in Denmark the situation is even worse. Climate change is exacerbating the crisis with more droughts and floods, and chemical pollution in aquatic environments has become a growing challenge.
In this episode, Bjarke Møller talks to EU MP Stine Bosse from the Moderates about what a new European water strategy should contain – and whether we should ban PFAS altogether? Lone Mikkelsen, senior advisor in chemicals from the Green Transition Denmark, comes by to talk about the consequences of chemical pollution for health and fertility. And at the end of the program, energy researcher at DTU, Marta Victoria, gives an insight into what we know about the major blackout that plunged Spain and Portugal into darkness at the end of April.

What is the status of climate change in Europe according to the latest climate science – and should nuclear power play a role in the energy mix of the future?
In this episode, Bjarke Møller talks to Adrian Lema, head of the National Centre for Climate Research at DMI, about the state of the climate in Europe based on the new report European State of the ClimateHow serious is the climate crisis, have we exceeded the Paris Agreement's 1,5 degree goal, and what will it take to reverse the trend? Later in the episode, Jakob Zinck Thellufsen, researcher at Aalborg University in energy system analysis and co-author of the publication, appears. Facts about Nuclear PowerWhat are the ups and downs in the debate about nuclear power plants as a solution to the green transition, and is nuclear power as cheap and cost-effective as some claim?

Agriculture in the EU has a major impact on the climate, nature and environment. The question is how we can best support a green transition in the industry.
In this episode, Bjarke Møller talks to Erik Tang about a new green proposal from the Green Transition Denmark on how the EU can make it more attractive for agriculture to invest in climate change. Later in the episode, MEPs Per Clausen (EL) and Niels Fuglsang (S) participate in a conversation about how the EU's agricultural policy can be reformed - and what role climate, environment and ecology should play in future support schemes.

Europe is in the middle of a geopolitical storm: dependence on fossil fuels makes us vulnerable, Trump is shaking up the old transatlantic order, and the green vision is under pressure. So how can the EU strengthen the green community and ensure cheap, green energy – without losing the competitiveness of industry?
Bjarke Møller talks to MEPs Kira Marie Peter-Hansen (SF) and Niels Flemming Hansen (K) about the EU's Clean Industrial Deal and energy action plan. Jeppe Juul, head of transport policy at the Danish Green Transition Denmark, gives an overview of the green elements in the new action plan for the transport sector, and professor at the University of Copenhagen, Katherine Richardson, puts the big green agenda into perspective with everything from Trump and tipping points to political action and hope.
