The indoor climate in daycare centers
We put the indoor climate in the country's daycare centers under the microscope. In the project, we investigate a number of indoor climate parameters that are essential for children's well-being and health.
Children thrive best in a healthy indoor climate. But in the majority of the country's day care institutions there are worrying levels of, among other things, harmful chemicals, particles and CO2. This shows a pilot project that we carried out in 2019.
In our latest project, we take a closer look at the indoor climate in 30 new daycare centers. They broadly represent the design of Danish day care institutions. The project, financed by Realdania, creates additional knowledge and builds on the previous project. The work is carried out in collaboration with the National Research Center for the Working Environment and the Technological Institute, where the latter, as something new, is responsible for measuring the noise level in the institutions. At the same time, levels of CO are measured2, ultrafine particles, radon and harmful chemicals.
The project culminates in a series of recommendations for municipalities and daycare centers that want to improve the indoor climate for the youngest children. The new knowledge must contribute to the need for improvements to the indoor climate in the country's day care institutions being placed on the political agenda to a greater extent - both locally and nationally.
Period: 2020-2023
Financing: The philanthropic association Realdania finances the project.
Project partners: The studies are carried out in collaboration with the National Research Center for Working Environment and the Technological Institute. We also have collaboration with the University of Copenhagen and VELTEK.
